Halo 5 Warzone Firefight

I had my hands on with Halo 5’s Warzone Firefight beta and it was a fun mode to play. It was a nice break from the other pvp focus play modes. Warzone Firefight is a mode where you have a team of eight Spartans go up against increasingly difficult waves of AI controlled enemies.

It’s only available on one map so far with a small selection of objectives. After a couple of hours though, it was a little repetitive. The random objective for each round did help mix it up but there’s really only three types of objectives. My favourite of these has to be defend the garage. It’s probably the most challenging mode and I would like to see different bases to be defend so it’s not so predictable – such as “defend the West Armoury”. Playing on the same map did make it feel old quickly, and I think objective variety could’ve helped so I’ve come up with a couple of ideas for new objectives to be included.

The first idea is to have a “stronghold” variant where you have to capture and hold two areas of the map (not buildings) and get to 50 points within a time limit. It doesn’t have to be 50 points – this can be tweaked. I just like the idea of defending an open area where you have to work together to secure.

There could also be an arm a bomb type mode where there are multiple points you have to arm bombs. I think only getting 3/4 or 4/5 locations would be enough to win the round. It would be cool to have to defend your designated bomb carrier whilst he has to “arm the bomb” under enemy fire.

Halo Warzone Firefight reminds me of the Horde mode from Gears of War series and I loved that. I think if there’s enough variety, this could drain thousands of hours from fans. Let’s hope there are new objectives on all warzone maps when it finally releases!
